International Family Mediation for Cross-Border Families
A calm and effective approach to cross-border family disputes
Family conflicts involving different countries, languages and legal systems require a careful and informed approach.
I provide international family mediation for parents and families living across borders, helping them reach practical, child-focused and workable agreements, without unnecessary litigation.
My work is especially suited for:
-
Bicultural and bilingual families
-
Cross-border separations and divorces
-
Parental communication and co-parenting arrangements
-
Financial and child-related practical agreements
-
High-conflict or low-communication situations
About me
I am Silvia Sejas Pardo a family mediator and family lawyer, with over 11 years of experience supporting bicultural and bilingual families in sensitive international contexts.
I am also specialized in international parental child abduction matters, which allows me to work with a deep understanding of cross-border risks, prevention and long-term consequences for children.
I am admitted to practise family law in Spain and Argentina, and I work in:
-
English
-
Spanish
-
Catalan
My practice is always guided by the best interests of the children, neutrality and respect for both parents.
How mediation works
Before starting any mediation process, I recommend an initial informational session.
This first meeting is not mediation itself, but a space to:
-
Explain the mediation process, limits and benefits
-
Assess whether mediation is suitable and safe for your case
-
Reduce initial tension
-
Clarify expectations and roles
-
Establish basic communication guidelines
Mediation may then take place:
-
Jointly
-
Individually
-
Asynchronously (offline), when direct communication or scheduling is difficult
All communications are confidential within legal limits, and participation is voluntary.
Asynchronous (offline) mediation
When parties do not share a common language, live in different time zones, or direct communication is not constructive, I offer asynchronous mediation.
This format allows each party to:
-
Communicate separately and in writing
-
Receive structured summaries and proposals
-
Progress toward agreements at a calmer pace
This method is particularly effective in international and high-conflict cases.
Agreements and legal follow-up
If an agreement is reached, it can be:
-
Clearly drafted
-
Structured for long-term implementation
-
Adapted for possible incorporation into judicial or administrative proceedings, where appropriate
Each party remains free to seek independent legal advice at any time.
